Summary/Objective  This position works with various contractors on job sites to inspect and ensure the quality of work performed in the erection of buildings, highways, dams, bridges, sports facilities, and other construction related projects

Essential Functions

  • Review and understand shop drawings, details, and installation instructions.
  • Review and understand contract Specifications, scope of work and exclusions outlined in the contract and related industry standards (i.e. ASTM, AWS, AISC, CBC.)
  • Participate in the construction, installation and testing of project mock-ups.
  • Assist in the training of field employees with written acknowledgement of completion.
  • Conduct inspections of workmanship and materials.
  • Maintain a report log documenting in writing all quality infractions, the required corrections to include the responsible party's name(s).
  • File all reports and photo documentation in their respective project "QA Docs" folder, dated & clearly labeled following established naming conventions to ease future searches.
  • Publish and distribute QC reports in accordance with current Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of workmanship and materials installed on site.
  • Verify that the installation of products is being completed in accordance with the project's erection drawings, project architect's specifications, and the Field Quality Control Procedures Manual.
  • Generate photo documentation.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in decision-making, input, and issue escalation; facilitate problem solving.
  • Attend third party inspections and performance testing, verifying that test methods and/or pressures do not deviate from the specifications.
  • Attend Contractor QA/QC Meetings and monitor issues and concerns noted in the meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate turnover and acceptance of completed work including that of affiliated sub-contractors to the General Contractor on an area-by-area basis.
  • Manage non-compliance reports, action items, and punch lists; (Internal, General Contractors, Third Party Consultants and Owner / Architects).

Education/Training

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Work Experience

Minimum of three (3) year of experience.  Completion of a verifiable vocational or training program may substitute for 1 year of experience.  Bachelor degree in engineering, construction science, or equivalent may substitute for 3 years' work experience.

Specialized Knowledge

As outlined in the Core Competencies, an individual must have thorough knowledge and an advanced understanding of each competency outlined above in order to carry out the essential functions of this position.  Specialized Knowledge is also required in the following areas:  Ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints; Knowledge of AWS and AISC codes applicable to steel fabrication and erection; Demonstrated knowledge of various methods of weld testing procedures

Personal computer; phone; computer software includes: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.

Work Environment

Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions.  Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position.  Position requires frequent out of state air/road travel as needed and required.  A clean driving record will be required due to required road travel.  Current and valid driver's license and proof of acceptable insurance is required.  This position is generally outdoors on active construction sites but periodically will be indoors in a climate controlled office. The position is safety sensitive which working near exposed openings at heights found on typical high-rise construction sites while wearing and utilizing proper safety tie off systems is required.   Travel time is up to 50%.
