This position ensures compliance with all local, state and federal OSHA regulations, along with company and client safety policies and requirements for both Steel Erection & Fabrication.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and coach jobsite and shop Safety Managers
  • Conducts safety orientation for all new hire employees
  • Conducts safety audits, documents audits and is part of the solution for corrective actions
  • Trains employees on site specific hazards, fall protection, aerial lifts and conducts tool box talks as required
  • Maintains current and accurate MSDS file for all materials on job site and fabrication facilities
  • Ensures that corrective action is initiated by managers/supervisors responsible for that area, and provides assistance as needed
  • Evaluates hazardous conditions and works with supervision to eliminate the hazards; Maintains safety compliance within OSHA, Company & Client standards.
  • Review contracts and bid requirements
  • Provides technical assistance to supervision on safety related matters
  • Prepare Site specific plans and works with Project Management and Estimators on a regular basis
  • Effectively support and work with general and sub-contractors and shop plant supervision
  • Conduct accident and near miss investigations as necessary
  • Prepare review and update JSA's as necessary
  • Conduct and review daily Pre Task assignments
  • Maintain a positive pro-active relationship with employees, supervision, management and client personnel
  • Promote a positive safety culture with all employees; Conduct OSHA 10 & 30 hour training as needed
  • Conduct all safety training as needed

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Work Experience

Five (5) years of related experience as a safety professional in a commercial construction environment.  Previous steel erection & fabrication experience and ability to work effectively with tradesmen required.

Specialized Knowledge

As outlined in the Core Competencies, an individual must have thorough knowledge and an advanced understanding of each competency outlined above in order to carry out the essential functions of this position.  Specialized Knowledge is also required in the following areas:  Demonstrated knowledge of PPE, GHS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection procedures for Steel Fabrication & Erection.  In-depth knowledge of both Federal and state plans, along with comprehensive understanding of EPA rules and regulations.  Demonstrated knowledge of rigging, cranes, steel erection & fabrication.  CHST, OHST, STS OSHA 30 & OSHA 500 certification preferred. First Aid/CPR certified trainer preferred.  EM 385-1 experience preferred.  

Software & Technology

Position will require the frequent use of MS Windows 7 and/or MS Windows 10, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and MS Outlook.  Blue Beam PDF Software; Concur Software for expenses or applicable software. 

Work Environment

Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions.  Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position.  Extensive travel is required and may consist or 75% or more of required activities.  A clean driving record will be required due to required road travel.  Current and valid driver's license and proof of acceptable insrance is required.  This position is generally outdoors on active construction sites but periodically will be indoors in a climate controlled office.  Therefore, being subject to extreme heat conditions can be expected.
