Direct the daily activities of Team Leader and Leadmen and other production employees in the preparation, fabrication and throughout of structural steel and detail pieces according to provided drawings and detail instructions.

 Essential Functions

  • Work closely with other Plant Manager and General Foreman to assure adherence to schedules, efficient use of personnel and skills, production machinery and other resources.
  • Coordinate maintenance of equipment, required supplies and support activities to accomplish production and quality goals.
  • Assure compliance with the company safety program by all employees within assigned area.
  • Know and understand the company safety program.
  • Lead by example: model the safe behavior required of all employees.
  • Assist management and safety personnel in developing departmental safety practices.
  • Instruct new employees in departmental safety and job specific procedures.
  • Hold departmental safety meetings with employees.
  • Notify Safety Department immediately and assist in investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Complete and submit reports on all accidents and incidents to the Safety Department.

High school diploma or equivalent.  Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a related trade may substitute.

Work Experience

5 plus years of directly related work experience as a Supervisor in a Structural Steel Shop.

Specialized Knowledge

Understand and read blueprints, know good welding and steel working processes.  Knowledge of AWS/AISC Codes. Understand safe and proper operation of common machinery in a steel fabrication environment.

Software, Technology and Equipment used

Microsoft software applications including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.  Personal computer, adding machine and copy machine.

Work Environment

Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions.  Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position.  This position is generally outdoors within the plant facilities.  Work is outside in typically hot, cold or wet conditions.  The work may involve getting clothing and hands dirty.  Wearing of proper safety equipment is essential.
