Summary/Objective 

Direct the daily activities of workers engaged in performing necessary maintenance and repairs to various machines within the facility.

 

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with other Plant Manager and Shop Foreman coordinate maintenance of equipment.
  • Studies maintenance and repair schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments. 
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. 
  • Instruct all employees on safe operations on repair and maintenance of shop machines. 
  • Recommends measures to improve working conditions of machines. 
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of employee time to increase efficiency of keeping machines up and running. 
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists worker in solving work problems.  Initiates or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. 
  • Maintains time and production records. 
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities to prevent down time on machines. 
  • Being able to analyze problems with various equipment and machines. 
  • Work with minimum supervision. 
  • Climbing to do repairs with no fear of heights.

Required qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) to perform essential functions of this position:

  1. Education/Training

High school diploma or equivalent.  Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a related trade may substitute.

  • Work Experience

3 -5 years of directly related work experience as a maintenance technician and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

  1. Specialized Knowledge

In depth knowledge of 3 phase electrical to 480 volts.  Must be able to weld.  Must have experience with crane and hoists.  Have working knowledge of repair and maintenance of Motor and Control, and Hydraulic and Pneumatics.

 

  1. Software, Technology and Equipment used

Microsoft software applications including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.  Personal computer, adding machine and copy machine.

 

  1. Work Environment

Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions.  Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position.  Position requires some road travel as needed and required.  A clean driving record will be required due to required road travel.  Current and valid driver's license and proof of acceptable insurance is required.  Work is outside in typically hot, cold or wet conditions.  The work may involve getting clothing and hands dirty.  Wearing of proper safety equipment is essential. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 lbs.  The employee must occasionally push and/or pull a maximum force of 200 ft-lb.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Good judgment in determining best method and procedure to be followed.  Able to work on jobs while applying safety rules at all times.
