The SubFab Expeditor acts as an extension of the Project Manager at Sub-Fabricators and is responsible for gathering and disseminating information regarding visits to sub-fabricators that are performing fabrication on a project.

Core Responsibilities (not an all-inclusive list of duties/expectations)

  • Interfaces with Project Manager and necessary departments to assist in the scheduling of work and materials to and from sub-fabricators. 
  • Provides input and direction to aid in the preparation and maintenance for all backlogs and schedules. 
  • Acts as the conduit for information flow between the Project Manager and the subcontract fabricator. 
  • Works closely with Purchasing, Materials Control, Production Control and subcontracted fabricators. 
  • Makes regularly scheduled visits to sub-fabricator plants as directed and reports to Project Team of sub-fabricators visited. 
  • Inspects work being fabricated in sub-fabricator plants and ensures work conforms to shop drawings, Schuff Steel and Project specific QA/QC requirements. 
  • Tracks, understands, and reports sub-fabricator's adherence to Project Schedules. 
  • Works with Project Team and Schuff QA to expedite corrective action resolutions for non-conforming items. 
  • Assures that the proper drawings are being used in the sub-fabricator's plant. 
  • Works closely with Project Team/Manager to assist sub-fabricator to incorporate changes relating to drawings and materials while providing explanations and answers to mitigate excessive extra charges from sub-fabricator.
  • Reports status of materials, fabrication, and any foreseen variation in scheduled activities. 


Software, Technology and Equipment

Personal computer; phone; computer software includes: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook. Primavera Scheduling/Contract Manager, Fabtrol, and Tekla references.

Education and Experience

At least five (5) years related experience in the coordination of structural steel projects or five (5) years' experience as a Shop Foreman.  Associates degree or training from an approved and accredited technical school in engineering, detailing/drafting, or construction management may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
